NASA Postdoctoral Fellowships

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers scientists and engineers unique opportunities to engage in NASA research in space science, earth science, aeronautics, exploration systems, lunar science, astrobiology, and astrophysics.



Details:
• Annual stipends start at $53,500, with supplements for high cost-of-living areas and certain academic specialties
• Annual travel budget of $8,000
• Relocation allowance
• Financial supplement for health insurance purchased through the program
• Appointments renewable for up to three years
• Approximately 90 Fellowships awarded annually

Experimental Chemical Physics at Northwestern University

Job Description

We are seeking to recruit talented and enthusiastic young scientists who are highly motivated in the areas of experimental physical chemistry, chemical physics, biophysics, and condensed-matter physics.
The successful candidates will be integrated in a dynamic group working in the field of optical spectroscopy and microscopy (multi-dimensional spectroscopy, ultrafast nonlinear spectroscopy, nonlinear microscopy, confocal microscopy) with an emphasis on studying excitonic materials including semiconductors and light-harvesting proteins.

Post-Doc: Stem Cell Bioinformatics

Job Description

A post-doctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. Bouhassira at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. The successful candidate will have experience in bioinformatics and will help us study genetic and epigenetic differences in human pluripotent and hematopoietic stem cells.
Ph.D. strongly preferred but not required. Preference will be given for candidates with training in computer sciences or bioinformatics. Candidates with a Master degree will be considered, and if successful, appointed to a position appropriate to their experience.

Post-Doctoral: Biomedical Engineering

Job Description

The Whiting School of Engineering, Divisions of Cardiac Surgery and of Cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University are seeking a candidate for postdoctoral fellowship to conduct collaborative research aimed at the development of novel cardiac support systems. We seek candidates with expertise in design of biomedical devices, and/or systems operating at the interface between engineering and physiology. Early phases of the project involve development of concepts through interactions with medical and engineering faculty members with diverse background and expertise.
The candidate is also expected to assist in project management, including coordination among academic and administrative personnel, as well as planning of technical meetings. Consequently, the candidate must also possess strong organizational skills and be able to successfully navigate a complex diverse environment.

Research Associateship Program Research Opportunities.  The National Research Council of the National Academies is accepting applications for competitive awards for independent graduate, postdoctoral and senior scientific research to be conducted at participating US federal laboratories and affiliated institutions.  Awards are offered in all fields of science and engineering.  These awards provide the opportunity to devote full time to research in state-of-the-art facilities often unique to the federal research enterprise.  Applicants design their own research projects to be compatible with the interests of the sponsoring laboratory.  Many opportunities are open to non-US as well as US citizens. 
Most awards are for one year, renewable in annual increments to a total of three years.  Senior researchers may apply for shorter periods.  Further details are on the Web site.

Post-Doc/Associate: Computational Physics of Ferroelectrics

The Geophysical Laboratory, Carnegie Institution of Washington, seeks applications for a postdoctoral position with Ronald Cohen in the field of materials by design and the fundamental physics of ferroelectrics.  The position will focus on first-principles computational predictions of new materials and simulations of existing materials electromechanical properties under applied electric fields.

Minimum qualifications: A PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science or a related field is the requirement for this position. Candidates should have experience with first-principles electronic structure methods, be able to program in c++ and f90, and be able to write and communicate effectively.
Desired qualifications: Experience in first-principles study of ferroelectrics. Experience with molecular dynamics, lattice dynamics, and local and global structural optimization.  Experience with correlated materials including transition metal oxides. Experience studying defects and domains in perovskites and other oxides. Successful candidates are expected to be able to work in both independent and collaborative group environments. The appointment is for one year, with the potential for renewal for a second year pending progress and available funding. The position is available immediately and will remain open until filled.
